Climate change poses serious threat to people in Uganda more especially vulnerable people and communities as they can’t afford to cope with its (climate change) effects or impact. Climate change impacts livelihoods to varying degrees from affecting food production to harming human health and their development. Vulnerable Basket sensitizes vulnerable communities/people on how to conserve and manage natural resources so that they are less at risk from the effects of climate change, promotes eco-friendly activities among vulnerable communities with emphasis on adoption of climate smart farming practices/techniques; this has helped in making agriculture resilient to climate change and ensures food security. Climate smart agriculture is still in its nascent stage and Vulnerable Basket opens new gateways for the development of viable and sustainable agronomic practices among most vulnerable farming communities.

Key activities include community awareness sessions, training, and supporting activities/projects that preserve the environment and at the same time generate income thus economic development, increasing awareness on linkages between climate change and food security, enhancing adaptation and preparedness of smallholder farmers. Sessions on linkages between food security and climate change, promotes adoption of climate smart farming practices suitable for the agro- ecological through capacity building and training of farmers, establishes community-based resource centers to serve as information hub and library for the farmers to get latest information on climate change and support campaigns that strengthen climate justice and encourage the use disposables and other methods/activities that are in favor of a good environment – i.e., sustainable agriculture, sustainable water and land use, promote 3Rs and zero waste campaign.
