How it started

Vulnerable Basket (VB) was founded by Mr. Kimbowa Syrage with a simple yet powerful idea of creating a positive impact in the lives of vulnerable people. The Organization started with a small group of dedicated volunteers, led by Mr. Kimbowa Syrage. This group of passionate young men and women started with visiting the most vulnerable individuals, children with special needs’ facilities and communities, targeting women, youth, children, elderly and people with disabilities (PWDs).

Our Philosophy

VB believes that all human beings are equal, endowed with gifts and that disability is not inability. Therefore, everyone should be given a chance to use those gifts for the wellbeing of society. We also believe that by addressing both the immediate needs of health, long-term needs of education, environmental conservation and sustainable agriculture, we can break the cycle of poverty and people live a meaningful life and have a role in society.

Vision

An inclusive society in which vulnerable people (Children, Elderly, youth, Women and people with Disabilities) and their families are self-reliant, emancipated, and respected.

Mission

To empower vulnerable people (Children, Elderly, youth, Women and people with Disabilities) and their families to maximize their potential and improve their standards of living through sustainable Livelihoods and economic empowerment, improved healthcare, education, sustainable agriculture, vocational skills, and Environmental conservation to curb climate change.

Goal

To improve the quality-of-life vulnerable people and their families.

Organizational Values:

Teamwork, Humanity, Honesty, Kindness, Politeness. Integrity, Respect for every life, Non-discrimination and Unity in Diversity.

Our story

Mr. Kimbowa Syrage, in my role as the founder of Vulnerable Basket, “It breaks my heart when I see a child not in school or homeless and without food, youth unemployed, a mother or aged person struggling with unmet basic needs (i.e., medical and food), disabled begging on the streets. Too often their family has shunned them and see them as a burden on their already limited resources. The same happens when I see communities struggling without clean water, climate change effects and natural environment being destroyed as a result of human activities. But knowing that it doesn’t have to be this way Vulnerable Basket came in to address these challenges thus transforming lives of these people”. My response to the above was to identify and mobilize country men and women to try and do something and that’s how Vulnerable Basket started. Vulnerable Basket has continued to grow and registered a number of achievements since 2018.

Advocating for rights of vulnerable groups and making helpful connections with different partners, extending the hand to children with special needs, providing play and scholastic material to pre- school and school going children. Vulnerable Basket identifies, solicit and deliver viable services/resources and partnerships according to the imperative needs of vulnerable individuals or communities. We are in close cooperation with the religious leaders, local community leaders, social centers, charity homes and schools. Behind Vulnerable Basket is a dedicated team of individuals who are passionate about making a difference. Mr. Kimbowa Syrage coupled with a team of volunteers and staff members who work tirelessly to ensure the smooth functioning of our programs and services. Each member brings his/her unique skills and experiences, but we all share a common goal: to uplift the lives of vulnerable people and make them contributing citizens to the communities where they live. Kindly join us on our mission to improve the quality of lives of vulnerable people. You will bring so much joy to their hearts and make them feel that they can lead an everyday happy life.
